June break
"This was our second visit to this beautiful cottage. Despite the rain, we were out walking everyday with the grandchildren. The cottage has everything you need. We booked an Asda delivery so that we could just relax. Lots of local walks. Secure garden for dogs and children. Stuart is at the end the phone is you need anything. Definately worth a visit."

Ellwood House is an absolute gem of a holiday retreat, one that I would recommend to anyone
"Caldbeck itself is a quiet village with an excellent pub that provides good, reasonably priced meals. There is also a good local shop and an excellent cafe, as well as a number of other commercial outlets.

Ellwood House is just a short walk from all of these, and is an extremely well appointed house that gave us a very comfortable and enjoyable week away in what we found to be the most picturesque but least tourist orientated part of the Lake District.

The front of the property opens directly onto the road, but this wasn't a problem as there is very little traffic anyway. Noise was never an issue, and we only really used the back door anyway as this led out to the enclosed garden, and the large parking area. The house itself was fabulous. Downstairs comprised a decent and well equipped kitchen with the door out to the garden, and a large and equally well equipped joint lounge/dining area."

"Halfway upstairs was the bathroom, then one bedroom that was higher than the bathroom but lower than the other two bedrooms. Mezzanine heaven, but it gave the property a really interesting vibe that we really liked. I found Stuart (the owner of Ellwood House) to be exceptionally helpful and friendly, as well as being attentive enough to make us feel welcome and looked after without being overbearing. If you are looking for a quality stay in an excellent property located in a less frequented, tranquil and picturesque part of the Lake District, then I would recommend Ellwood House without any hesitation."

"This was our second visit to Ellwood House, and we enjoyed it as much as we did the first time. The location is great. Walking distance to village amenities. Don’t need to drive to go on the most amazing walks. We would never get bored of the beautiful views of the fells. The house is comfy and perfect with dogs as the garden is enclosed. This year we used the outside space a lot as we had the most beautiful April weather. We would definitely like to return and enjoy Caldbeck again."

Perfect location
"We have just spent a relaxing week at Ellwood House, which was fully equipped with everything needed to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. An enclosed garden made it easy with having our two dogs with us. The location was perfect for hiking and the scenery was absolutely stunning. Icing on the cake was a great local pub just down the road that did great food and was very friendly. We are looking forward to returning next year."

Relaxing, welcoming, homely - fabulous location
"Our 3rd visit to this beautiful village and house. Already booked our 4th! We love the location, the privacy and the house has everything you need. It is cosy and comfy and feels very welcoming. We enjoyed the many local walks and just slotting in to the village for a nice relaxing week of dog walks and days out. Would highly recommend!"

A briliant place to stay
"Had a brilliant time staying at Ellwood House - the place was excellent. A great base for exploring and we could have stayed another week and not run out of things to do. Two big dogs were happy as Larry in the cottage and garden which was secure and safe for them.

Furniture and beds were very comfortable (which most holiday cottages don’t seem to bother about). Well equipped kitchen and plenty of parking. Extra fridge and freezer space in the barn, as well as a washer and dryer. Even the garden furniture was comfortable to use and a delight to sit out in the sun with a cuppa in the morning. I have absolutely nothing negative to say. Would book again in a heartbeat. Will definitely recommend to friends."
